Judge Hazel B. Jones
Judge Hazel B. Jones is a native Houstonian. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C.
After graduating law school, Judge Jones worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County, Texas from 1996-2003. From 2003-2005, Judge Jones worked as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas – Houston Division where she pursued the federal government initiate of “Project Safe Neighborhoods”-- prosecuting dangerous felons with firearms.
Judge Jones has also worked as a criminal defense attorney, and a visiting Justice of the Peace Judge in the Houston area. In 2008, she served a 4-year term as State District Judge for the 338th Criminal District Court. Where she presided over felony cases.
Currently, she is the presiding judge of the 174th Criminal District Court of Harris County, Texas; in addition, Judge Jones also serves as a Star Drug Court Judge working to help probationers successfully complete their probation, overcome addictions, and change their lives for the betterment of themselves and our community.
Lastly, Judge Jones campaigns on the platform that although life is not always fair, her courtroom will be fair to all persons; that she will follow the law wherever it leads; that she’s not afraid to be a judge of second chances or third chances when appropriate; that she will put at the forefront the safety of our community; and that she’s dedicated to ensuring the integrity of our judicial system.
